CalFresh Policy Updates July 2022
CalFresh has recently updated it’s policies. The 2 main updates to keep in mind as a current or potential benefit recipient are what follows:
Previously, CalFresh Benefits would be removed from EBT cards after 12 months of inactivity.
Now, EBT cards that are inactive after 9 months will lose their benefits. Once the benefits are no longer available, they cannot be reinstated. Fortunately, this will not affect eligibility for future benefits.
Usually, when adding a person to your CalFresh Household, you must provide a list of documents, including a Social Security Number (SSN).
Individuals who add an infant to their CalFresh Household now have a extended period before needing to present the baby’s SSN. The household has at least until the infant is 6 months to provide the infant’s SSN to the county.
If the application or recertification of CalFresh Benefits happns after the infant is 6 months old, the household must provide the SSN (or application for SSN, or good cause for not applying for SSN).
