What is Medi-Cal?

Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid health care program. This public health insurance program offers free or low-cost coverage for health care services to children and adults with limited income and resources.

It is financed by the state and federal government. Receiving health care benefits through Medi-Cal is NOT considered a public charge.

Who may qualify for Medi-Cal?

Low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low-income people with specific diseases.

An recent expansion to Medi-Cal grants full scope Medi-Cal to adults 50 years of age or older, regardless of immigration status.

Public Charge

There is a large amount of stigma and fear surrounding social programs, such as CalFresh. For many individuals and families, there is a fear of being considered a Public Charge for receiving aid, which would affect them negatively if they decide to pursue citizenship.

StLRS recognizes the language, legal, and cultural barriers in place that make it difficult for people to access health and nutritional. We are committed to aiding everyone who needs assistance accessing these services and programs.

We are here to assure you that you will NOT be considered a public charge for receiving benefits like CalFresh or Medi-Cal.
