More specifically, project activities will take place in cities within the Kaiser Permanente service area, including South Gate, Pico Rivera, Paramount, Norwalk, Maywood, Lynwood, Downey, Cudahy, Bell Gardens, Bell, and Los Angeles. For the past 6 years, StLRS has served thousands of families through free services aimed at increasing awareness of healthcare benefits and social programs, as well as application assistance, case management, and advocacy. Through their continued outreach and involvement in the community, StLRS staff sees firsthand the challenges afflicting community members to accessing these critical basic resources. Some of the obstacles include language barriers, stigma and fear surrounding social services, and the complex system they need to navigate to access these programs. “We are so grateful for the confidence Kaiser Permanente places in StLRS with this grant,” expressed StLRS Development and Communications Manager Sara Villagran. “Their support means that they are our partner in our mission of improving health and equity in our community. By expanding bilingual awareness and assistance, we will be able to increase enrollment into health and nutrition benefits provided by private and government-sponsored programs like Medi-Cal, Covered California, Kaiser Child Health Plan, and CalFresh.” With the generous grant from Kaiser Permanente, StLRS will be able to continue to expand its efforts to provide quality and compassionate services to disadvantaged communities.
