New Special Enrollment Period for DACA Recipients in California

At St. Louise Resource Services (StLRS), we understand the importance of access to healthcare, especially for DACA recipients. If you are a recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and have concerns about your healthcare coverage, we’re here to provide the information you need.

DACA and Health Insurance Coverage

DACA recipients in California are eligible to enroll in healthcare coverage through Covered California. Many DACA recipients may also qualify for financial assistance to help pay for their coverage. To better serve this community, Covered California has announced a new Qualifying Life Event (QLE) specifically for DACA recipients.

This new QLE allows individuals to enroll through a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) from February 1 to December 31, 2025

What This Means for You

If you are a DACA recipient and you haven’t had the chance to enroll in healthcare coverage yet, now is your opportunity! The Special Enrollment Period allows you to apply for health insurance through Covered California, and many may be eligible for financial help to make coverage more affordable.

How to Get Started

  • Apply Now: If you qualify, you can apply through Covered California.
  • Enrollment Period: February 1, 2025, through December 31, 2025.
  • Where to Apply: Visit the Covered California website or contact our team for assistance.

At StLRS, we’re here to help guide you through the application process and answer any questions you have about your health insurance options.

Resources for DACA Recipients

We also want to address any concerns you might have about immigration status. Purchasing insurance through Covered California and receiving financial assistance does not make you a “Public Charge.” Rest assured that enrolling in healthcare coverage will not affect your immigration status.

For immigration resources, including information on DACA and Public Charge, please visit the California Immigration Guide. The Covered California website also has general Information for Immigrants, recipient-specific DACA ResourcesDACA FAQs, and information on Public Charge.
