CalFresh Policy Updates July 2022

CalFresh has recently updated its policies. The 2 main updates to keep in mind as a current or potential benefit recipient are what follows:

Previously, CalFresh Benefits would be removed from EBT cards after 12 months of inactivity.

Now, EBT cards that are inactive after 9 months will lose their benefits. Once the benefits are no longer available, they cannot be reinstated. Fortunately, this will not affect eligibility for future benefits.

Usually, when adding a person to your CalFresh Household, you must provide a list of documents, including a Social Security Number (SSN).

Individuals who add an infant to their CalFresh Household now have an extended period before needing to present the baby’s SSN. The household has at least until the infant is 6 months to provide the infant’s SSN to the county.

If the application or recertification of CalFresh Benefits happens after the infant is 6 months old, the household must provide the SSN (or application for SSN, or good cause for not applying for SSN).
