Attention CalFresh & EBT Cardholders: Important Update on Your New Card

Written by admin | Aug 18, 2025 10:07:51 PM

If you receive CalFresh or other benefits on your EBT card, you may have already noticed something new in your mailbox—a chip and tap EBT card. This change is part of California’s effort to keep your benefits safe and make using your card more convenient.

What You Need to Do

  • Activate your new card right away. Your old magnetic-stripe card will stop working soon, so don’t wait.

  • Use your same PIN. You don’t need to reapply or create a new PIN. Your benefits and PIN will automatically transfer to the new card.

  • Enjoy stronger security. The chip and tap technology adds EMV-level protection, making it harder for scammers to steal your information at checkout.

Benefits of the New Card

  • Safer transactions. Chip and tap technology reduces fraud by preventing card-skimming.

  • Faster checkouts. Tap your card at most registers for a quick and secure payment.

  • Easy account management. Download the ebtEDGE Mobile App to check your balance, review recent transactions, and manage your card from your phone.
