StLRS Clients Return to Share Joyous Surprise
Eva and Oscar Hernandez have been clients of St. Louise Resource Services (StLRS) for the past two years. They attended our Covered California Open Enrollment Kick-Off event this past November, not only to renew their health benefits, but in fact brought with them a special surprise for Carmen, their StLRS Certified Enrollment Councilor (CEC). Carmen has supported the couple with their health benefits needs over the last two years.
Eva and Oscar have been married for the past 32 years. After trying to conceive a baby the last 22 years, the emotional and excited couple came to share that they had received a miracle and were 5 months pregnant!
Sharing the joyous news was not the only thing bringing them back to StLRS. “We knew we’d receive the proper help here,” explained Eva. StLRS offers free application assistance, as well as simplification of the enrollment process. We make information accessible and easy to understand for our clients. During their visit, Carmen was able to help them explore their options with the Shop and Compare tool, as well as explain how each health insurance plan differed from one another.
Although they would’ve been automatically enrolled into their previous plan, due to rate changes their monthly premium would have significantly increased. As a family with a baby on the way, these types of financial decisions are critical. The guidance and experience offered by StLRS helped them to review their options and decide on the one that best fits their needs.
The couple expressed their gratitude to Carmen for taking the time to explain the process and the options available to them. Through advocacy and education, the clients were able to make an informed decision. In the end, they were able to enroll into a quality health plan that would not hurt their budget. Carmen will conduct a follow-up once their baby is born to assist with the baby’s health insurance.
